In the woods of the Fichtelgebirge in North-East Bavaria the owls are still frequent, but due to their inconspicuous way of living, nearly unknown.

It is the smallest European owl
and has only the size of a starling.
Therefore it can use the left caves
of the Spotted Woodpecker.
As the most owls
here it is eating
small mammals
but also birds.
